Winter Park Heritage Festival 2007

January 14, 2007. Nu Iota Omega spent the weekend serving at the Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Heritage Festival. This is the fourth year that Nu Iota Omega has partnered with the City of Winter Park to work this festival. The sorors manned the education tent. The educators of our chapter provided information on FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) Strategies, A listing of books of diverse culture that all students should read and information for parents to help students learn to and improve their reading skills. We also had information on colleges and careers.

The physicians and health care professionals of our chapter did health care assessments. We took blood pressures, check blood glucose levels and calculated BMI's (Body Mass Index). Counseling was available for healthy eating, weight loss and exercise. It was stressed that as a people we should know our numbers (weight, BMI, Blood Glucose and Blood Pressure) as we are disproportionately affected by diseases and other health care problems.
