Scholarship Criteria
The applicant must be an African American High School Senior in good academic and social standing within the Orlando Metropolitan area. Please click here to download the information and scholarship application. Application submission deadline is April 16, 2012. If the applicant is chosen, she shall be honored at the Annual RLY Memorial Golf Tournament on June 2, 2012 held on the campus of University of Central Florida.
Criteria is as follows:- Submit a completed the application
- Submission of a 250 word essay describing your reasons for applying for this scholarship
- Submission of one (1) letter of recommendation from your school principal, teacher or counselor
- Submission of one (1) letter of recommendation from your minister or community service coordinator
- Submission of an official transcript
- Submission of standardized test scores (SAT or ACT)

Connie Joyce Davis
June 30, 1977-September 15, 2008
Connie Joyce graduated from Ft. Walton Beach High School in 1995 and she graduated from the University of Florida in 1999. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Connie Joyce was enrolled at Capella University as a candidate for a Master's in Business Administration.
Connie Joyce worked as a third and fourth grade teacher at J. J. Finley Elementary School in Gainesville, Florida. She continued her professional teaching career at Maxey Elementary School in Winter Garden, Florida. She changed careers and began working for Hewitt Associates, Inc. as a Calculus Engineering Analyst where she calculated pension plans for the federal government.
Connie Joyce had a very active life. She loved dolphins and recently learned how to swim so she could swim with the dolphins at Discovery Cove. True to her alumni, Connie Joyce was a "Gator" for life. She loved to sing Zion's songs and help children. Connie Joyce made many friends and enjoyed working for her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Ashley Brooke Thompson

Maitland, FL – Nu Iota Omega Chapter awarded Ashley Brooke Thompson, honor student of Ocoee High School, the Connie Joyce Davis High School Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Soror Connie Joyce Davis was an active member of Nu Iota Omega, and became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on September 15, 2008.
The criteria for this esteemed award included an essay detailing the student's reasons why she should be given this award, community service involvement, future plans and the student must have a 3.0 or better G.P.A. and is in the top 25% of her graduating class.
The scholarship luncheon, where this award was presented, was held at the University of Central Florida, and was hosted by the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Metro Orlando. The keynote speaker was Commissioner Tiffany Moore Russell. Local citizens as well as several members of the Devine Nine Greek organizations attended this function including sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. from various neighboring chapters. Sorors who represented the Nu Iota Omega chapter are, from left to right: Cheryl Smith, Talera Thompson (Ivy Leaf Reporter and mother of the scholarship recipient), Tamiko Aikens (Anti-Basileus), Denise Dickenson (Basileus), Karen Anderson and Ebony Mosley.
