Scholarship Criteria

The applicant must be an African American High School Senior in good academic and social standing within the Orlando Metropolitan area. Please click here to download the information and scholarship application. Application submission deadline is April 16, 2012. If the applicant is chosen, she shall be honored at the Annual RLY Memorial Golf Tournament on June 2, 2012 held on the campus of University of Central Florida.

Criteria is as follows:
  • Submit a completed the application
  • Submission of a 250 word essay describing your reasons for applying for this scholarship
  • Submission of one (1) letter of recommendation from your school principal, teacher or counselor
  • Submission of one (1) letter of recommendation from your minister or community service coordinator
  • Submission of an official transcript
  • Submission of standardized test scores (SAT or ACT)

Connie Joyce Davis

June 30, 1977-September 15, 2008

Connie Joyce graduated from Ft. Walton Beach High School in 1995 and she graduated from the University of Florida in 1999. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Connie Joyce was enrolled at Capella University as a candidate for a Master's in Business Administration.

Connie Joyce worked as a third and fourth grade teacher at J. J. Finley Elementary School in Gainesville, Florida. She continued her professional teaching career at Maxey Elementary School in Winter Garden, Florida. She changed careers and began working for Hewitt Associates, Inc. as a Calculus Engineering Analyst where she calculated pension plans for the federal government.

Connie Joyce had a very active life. She loved dolphins and recently learned how to swim so she could swim with the dolphins at Discovery Cove. True to her alumni, Connie Joyce was a "Gator" for life. She loved to sing Zion's songs and help children. Connie Joyce made many friends and enjoyed working for her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

April 26, 2009. On Sunday, the Metro Orlando National Pan-Hellenic Council presented its 2nd Annual Scholarship Luncheon entitled "Overcoming Obstacles and Making a Change". Nu Iota Omega's President (Denise Dickenson) and Vice-President (Tamiko Aiken) presented its 2009 Scholarship recipients with a Certificate and instructions on how to claim the $1,000 scholarship winnings once enrolled in a college or university. The winners were Kieara Gaskin (Ocoee High) and Whitney Bristol (Jones High). The event began at 12:30 pm and concluded with a presentation to all participating Chapters.
